About Our Data
Where the prices come from, how they're calculated, and what you should know.
Primary Source: data.gov.my
Every fuel price displayed on HargaMinyak.my comes from a single official source: data.gov.my, the Malaysian government's official open data portal. Fuel price data is supplied by the Ministry of Finance (MOF) and updated weekly.
We use the fuelprice API endpoint, which provides weekly data from 2018 to present. Each record contains:
- Effective date (every Thursday)
- RON 95 price (full market)
- RON 95 BUDI price (subsidised)
- RON 97 price
- Diesel Peninsular Malaysia price
- BUDI Diesel & SKDS subsidised prices
The APM Formula
The Malaysian government uses the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM) to calculate RON 97 and diesel prices each week. This formula has been used since 1983 and factors in:
- MOPS product price (Mean of Platts Singapore), the key regional benchmark
- Operating costs and oil company margins
- Transportation costs to petrol stations
- Retailer margins
- Taxes and duties
The price is calculated on Friday based on the previous week's data, then announced Wednesday afternoon and takes effect Thursday morning.
BUDI 95: Targeted Subsidy
Since September 2025, RON 95 has been introduced with a targeted subsidy system known as BUDI 95. Malaysian citizens with an active driving licence pay the subsidised price of RM 1.99/litre, while foreigners and company vehicles pay the full market price (eligibility is based on citizenship and a licence, not income). Read our complete BUDI 95 guide.
Our Methodology
HargaMinyak.my does not calculate prices ourselves. We simply relay the official data from data.gov.my to you in a more readable form. If there's a discrepancy between the price we show and the price at the pump:
- Double-check data.gov.my for any corrections
- Petrol stations sometimes update their internal prices late
- Our data is cached for a few hours for performance; refresh for the latest
Data Reliability
Data from data.gov.my is released directly by the Malaysian government. It is the most authoritative source for official fuel prices. We do not edit, alter, or estimate data. We simply display it better.
